- SIBUYAN ADVENTURES -
THE NATIONAL PARK IN SIBUYAN ISLAND

Mount Guiting-Guiting Natural Park (equivalent to the IUCN category of National Park) was established to protect these forests, which are mainly in the centre and north of the island, and covers an area of 157 square kilometres (61 sq mi) out of Sibuyan’s total area of 445 square kilometres (172 sq mi).
The park is remarkable for its outstandingly scenic landscape with twin towering peaks set amidst closed canopy forests.
Its forests remain largely intact, and include the entire elevational gradient from:
- Lowland dipterocarp forest (at 200 to 900 m) and mangroves,
- through montane forest (above 700 m) to mossy forest,
- heathland and montane grassland around the peaks.

Strategically located in the center of the Philippine archipelago. Oceanic in origin and during the middle to late Pleistocene was not attached to any other island mass.
For this Sibuyan Island is one of the last remaining centers of rich biodiversity and reservoir of endemic species that supports the world's only population of a series of species.
The densest forest ever recorded in the Philippines and probably in the world, based on inventory conducted by the National Museum in 1995.
The Mount Guiting Guiting proudly stands as the only mountain in the Philippines with complete habitat type on its slope and as one of the most difficult mountains to climb in the Philippines.

The Mount Guiting Guiting National Park is also the entrance of one of the hiking trails to the summit.
It is officially declared as a 3 day hike.
Another option will be to choose the "Olango Trail".
The briefing and starting point will be at the area of the Boathouse.
